Mozambique is best known for its islands and incredible beaches, and until fairly recently the islands were the only destinations deemed safe for visitors due to the decades-long civil war in the country. With peace came a new vigour to develop the country as a tourism hotspot. The results of this development are a tourism industry on the brink of iconic status.

From the legendary islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago to the virtually unknown Quirimbas, Mozambique has been touted as one of the world’s top beach holiday destinations – and with good reason. All along the 2 500 km coastline white sands are lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean providing postcard-like beaches. Add to this some of Africa’s wildest game reserves in Gorongosa and Niassa and the beautiful Lake Malawi and you have it all.

The history of Mozambique is a reflection of the history of the African continent through the centuries – a history that can be experienced in many places on the Mozambique coast such as Ibo Island, Ilha de Mozambique and in the capital Maputo. With some of the best beaches on the continent, remote islands, a colourful history and pristine game parks Mozambique is fast becoming a must-do destination.
